(D MILL WHISTLE Dr. Heaton Will Speak At 25-Year Club Meeting Dr. George D. Heaton will speak at the barbecue for members of the Field- Cfest 25-Year Club at Tri-City baseball Park Saturday, October 6. Dr. Heaton, Sastor of Myers Park Baptist Church, Charlotte, is remembered here for his Appearances before the Carolina Co operative Council and during Fieldcrest Community Week in 1947. More than 600 members of the 25- Year Club and a number of guests will Attend the barbecue, marking the club’s *^inth annual meeting. The program ®tarts at 3 p. m. and includes games, *Husic, prizes and special entertainment. f^ire Prevention Week Set For October 7-13 The Tri-Cities will participate in the Nation-wide observance of Fire Preven tion Week October 7-13. Fire Preven tion, Week here will be ushered in by a Parade sponsored by the Leaksville, Spray, and Draper fire departments. The Parade will start at 10:30 a. m. Satur- '^ay, October 6, and will proceed through Leaksville, Boulevard, Spray, and Dra fter, Under auspices of the fire departments And the Tri-City Fire Marshals’ organi sation, Fire Prevention Week is expect- to be an outstanding event with wide Participation throughout the three com- (Continued on Page Five) Clean-up Contests Start Today If you see a quill or bobbin on the floor, you may profit by picking it up. During the month of October, some of the bobbins will have small paper in serts. The finder may redeem the value of these tickets at the canteen wagon for 5c, 10c, or 25c. This will be only one of the contests being sponsored by the Central Safety Committee during the annual Fall Clean-up campaign at the mills which opens October 1 and continues through October 26. The Clean-up and House keeping Campaign is a part of the Com pany’s continuing policy to provide clean and safe working conditions and to emphasize the importance of orderly and safe work habits. During National Fire Prevention Week, October 7-13, our mills will join with the community in its campaign to seek out and eliminate any fire hazards that may exist. Therefore, during this special week, the Clean-up campaign at the mills will give particular attention (Continued on Page Five) Good Response Given “Y” Membership Drive The Y. M. C. A. membership drive which started Monday, September 24, is meeting with good response and pre liminary indications are it will be one of the most successful in recent years. Each “Y” unit and the Girls’ Club is conducting its own campaign to con tinue through October 6. Heading the drive at Draper are Ralph Going and Dave Purcell. At Central “Y” the managers are Howard Blake and Glenn Simpson, while Mrs. J. F. Law is chairman of the Girls’ Club campaign. Sam Anderson and Virgil Hall are managers for Leaksville “Y” with Miss Lillian Ward, assisted by Rev. I. G. Simpson, heading the campaign at the Henry Street branch. Ladies joining the Girls’ Club are considered members of the “Y.” Also, members of Draper and Central Y. M.- C.A.’s and the Girls’ Club may use the Leaksville “Y” swimming pool. Company Donates Land For Draper’s New Town Hall S^BSSSBSBHBSiS In presentation ceremony at Draper, Mayor A. S. Daniels, right, receives from H. W. Whitcomb, assistant gen eral manager, a deed for the lot upon which Draper will build a new town hall. The Company donated to the town a 90 X 100 foot lot adjacent to the Y. M. C. A. property.
